The remarkable initiative was devised by advertising agency Wunderman Antwerp together with chef Dimitri Proost (24). The restaurant serves Japanese dishes with a Western twist. The campaign idea fits in with this style. 19 dishes from the menu were translated into Japanese. Each tattoo is available in six styles, from manga to traditional. There is even a calligraphy style that was specially designed in Japan.
At first glance, the tattoos seem to be ‘normal’ Japanese tattoos, but in this case they do not mean ‘hope’, ‘courage’ or ‘love’. Instead, they say ‘crispy duck salad’, ‘sea bass sashimi’ or another Japanese dish.
“IF THE TATTOO IS ON YOU,
THE DISH IS ON US”
The campaign was announced on the restaurant’s website. People could sign up to win a tattoo and the restaurant owner selected ten lucky contenders who were tattooed at a renowned tattoo shop in Antwerp, after which they were invited to enjoy a delicious free dinner.
Fortunately you can also have dinner at the restaurant without a lifelong reminder on your arm or back. We’ve been told that it is definitely worth it to discover Dim Dining’s kitchen, which produces the tastiest dishes. The chef serves an omakase menu and a sushi tasting menu.
